Gutter Cleaning in Arlington, TX

Hydro Hustle clears debris from gutters and downspouts across Arlington, Texas and brightens the exterior face to remove the black vertical streaking. Clogged gutters dump rainwater directly against the foundation, which matters more here than almost anywhere else because of North Texas clay soil. Free estimates, flat quote before we start. Call or text (682) 218-4939.

Two Different Jobs

Gutter Clean-Out

Removing leaves, grit, and nests from inside the gutter so water actually reaches the downspout. This is the functional one.

Gutter Brightening

Removing the black vertical streaks from the outside face. This is the cosmetic one — and pressure washing alone won’t do it.

Why It Matters Here Specifically

In North Texas, Gutters Are a Foundation Issue

In most of the country, clogged gutters are a nuisance. In Tarrant County they’re connected to the most expensive problem a house can have.

The soil under Arlington is expansive clay. It swells substantially when it takes on water and shrinks when it dries out, and it does this dramatically — our summers bake it hard and our storms saturate it in an afternoon. That movement is why foundation repair is such a familiar expense across DFW.

What a working gutter system does is carry roof runoff away from the house so the soil around the perimeter stays reasonably consistent. What a clogged one does is overflow at the same few spots and dump concentrated volumes of water directly against the foundation, soaking the clay unevenly — wet in one corner, dry along another wall.

Uneven moisture means uneven movement, and uneven movement is what cracks slabs.

Nobody should claim gutter cleaning prevents foundation problems outright — soil, drainage, plumbing leaks, and the original construction all matter more. But keeping water moving away from the house is one of the cheapest things a homeowner controls, and it’s genuinely worth more here than it would be in a region with stable soil.

The other things clogs cause

  • Fascia and soffit rot — standing water sits against the board the gutter is fastened to, and that repair is far more expensive than the cleaning
  • Mosquito breeding — a clogged gutter holds standing water for days after a storm, which is all it takes
  • Wasp and mud dauber nests — sheltered, dry, and out of reach is exactly what they’re looking for
  • Rodents and birds nesting — a debris-packed gutter is an obvious place to build
  • Sagging gutters — wet debris is heavy, and the weight pulls fasteners out of the fascia over time
  • Landscape erosion — overflow at one corner carves out the bed underneath it
The Cosmetic Half

What Are Those Black Streaks on My Gutters?

They’re called tiger stripes, and almost every white aluminum gutter in Arlington has them within a few years.

They aren’t dirt in the usual sense. When rain runs over the front lip instead of straight into the trough, it carries airborne pollutants, roof grit, and oxidized material from the gutter’s own painted finish down the face. That mixture bonds electrostatically to the surface — it isn’t sitting loosely on top of it.

Which is why the common assumption fails: you can pressure wash a gutter face until you’re driving water into the soffit and the stripes will still be there. They need a specific gutter brightening detergent to release the bond, then agitation and a rinse.

Straight Talk

What Brightening Can and Can’t Do

  • Usually restores gutters that are stained but whose factory finish is still intact — which is most of them
  • Improves significantly older gutters with moderate oxidation
  • Has limits on gutters where the paint has genuinely failed and chalked through. At that point the finish itself is gone, and cleaning can’t put it back — those need painting or replacing
  • Won’t hold forever. Stripes return over years as the finish continues to age. Expect it to be periodic, not permanent

We’ll look at yours and tell you which category they’re in before you pay for anything.

Which Do You Need?

Clean-Out and Brightening Are Different Services

Plenty of homeowners book one and are surprised the other didn’t happen. Here’s how they differ.

How It Works

What Happens on Gutter Day

1

Walk & Quote

We look at linear footage, height, how packed the gutters are, and whether guards are installed, then give you a flat price.

2

Clear by Hand

Debris comes out by hand rather than being blown around your roof and yard, and it goes into bags. Hand clearing gets the packed material at the seams that blowers miss.

3

Flush & Test

Every downspout gets flushed and watched until it runs clear at the bottom. A clogged downspout makes a clean gutter useless, and it’s the step that gets skipped.

4

Rinse & Tidy

Gutter exteriors get rinsed, anything that came down gets cleared off the driveway and beds, and we walk it with you before we leave.

Local Timing

Spring Is Worse Than Fall Here

Most people assume gutters are a fall chore. In North Texas, spring is often the bigger problem.

Live oaks drop catkins — the stringy yellow-green tassels — in enormous quantity every spring, along with a heavy leaf drop that happens as new growth pushes the old leaves off. Catkins mat together into a dense, fibrous plug that packs into downspout openings far more effectively than loose leaves do.

Then fall brings the conventional load: oak, elm, pecan, and cottonwood. Roof grit washes down year-round and settles into the trough underneath everything else.

Which is why twice a year is the honest recommendation here — late spring after the catkins finish, and late fall once the trees are bare.

If the trees over your roofline haven’t been trimmed in years, that’s worth addressing at the source. Clear Tarrant does tree and landscape work across the same cities we cover, and cutting back limbs that overhang the roof cuts down how much ends up in the gutters in the first place.

What Gutter Cleaning Costs in Arlington

Quoted per job. What it depends on:

  • Linear footage of gutter
  • Single story or two story
  • Roof pitch and access around the house
  • How packed the gutters are — a two-year backlog is different work
  • Whether gutter guards need removing and reinstalling
  • Whether you want brightening as well as clean-out

Text a photo of the house to (682) 218-4939 — a shot from the street usually tells us the footage and the height. Estimates are free with no obligation.

Common Questions

Gutter Cleaning FAQs — Arlington, TX

How much does gutter cleaning cost in Arlington, TX?

Gutter cleaning is quoted per job, based on linear footage, number of stories, access, how packed the gutters are, and whether guards need removing. Text a photo of the house to (682) 218-4939 and you’ll usually have a flat price back the same day. Estimates are free.

How often should gutters be cleaned in North Texas?

Twice a year for most Arlington homes — late spring and late fall. Spring matters more here than people expect, because live oaks drop catkins in huge volume and they mat together into dense plugs that block downspouts. Homes surrounded by mature trees may need a third visit.

What are the black streaks on my gutters?

Tiger stripes. When rain runs over the front lip rather than into the trough, it carries airborne pollutants, roof grit, and oxidized material from the gutter’s own finish down the face, where it bonds to the surface. Nearly every white aluminum gutter in Arlington develops them within a few years.

Does pressure washing remove tiger stripes?

No. The staining is bonded to the surface rather than sitting on it, so pressure alone won’t lift it — and turning up the pressure on a gutter face risks driving water into the soffit and denting the aluminum. Removing tiger stripes takes a gutter brightening detergent, agitation, and a rinse. That’s a separate service from clean-out.

Do you clean gutters that have gutter guards?

Usually yes, though it depends on the system. Some guards lift off easily and go back on; others are screwed down or built into the roof edge and are impractical to remove without risking damage. Tell us what you have when you call — send a photo if you’re not sure — and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s workable and how it affects the price.

Do you take the debris with you?

The debris comes out by hand and goes into bags rather than getting blown across your roof and yard. We clear anything that lands on the driveway or in the beds before we leave. If you’d like the bags hauled off entirely rather than left with your yard waste, just ask when you book.

Do you repair gutters?

No — we clean them, we don’t repair them. If we notice sagging sections, loose fasteners, separated seams, or improper pitch while we’re up there, we’ll point it out so you can get it looked at. Anything involving resealing, reattaching, or replacing belongs with a gutter contractor.

Why does the downspout matter so much?

Because a clean gutter feeding a blocked downspout is still a broken system. Water backs up in the trough, overflows the front, and lands at the foundation exactly as if you’d never cleaned it. We flush every downspout and watch it run clear at the bottom before we call the job done — it’s the step most commonly skipped.

What happens if I never clean my gutters?

Water overflows at the same points every storm and saturates the soil against your foundation, which matters in Arlington because expansive clay soil moves as it wets and dries. Standing debris also rots fascia boards, breeds mosquitoes, attracts wasps and rodents, and eventually pulls the gutters loose under its own weight. None of that is dramatic in month one; all of it compounds.

Do I need to be home?

Not necessarily. We need access around the house and to a water spigot for flushing the downspouts. If you’d rather not be there, leave the gates unlocked and the spigot on, and we’ll send photos when it’s done.

Can I clean my own gutters?

You can, and plenty of people do. The honest caution is that ladder falls are the real risk, not the gutters — most gutter-cleaning injuries happen on the way up or the way down, and a fall from single-story height is enough to do serious damage. If you’re doing it yourself, use a stabilizer, never lean the ladder on the gutter itself, and don’t do it alone.

Should I do gutters before or after a roof wash?

Roof first, then gutters. Soft washing a roof brings loose debris and dead algae down into the trough, so clearing the gutters afterward means the whole system ends up clean at once. If you’re booking both, we sequence it that way automatically.
